WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's tennis team was defeated at Villanova on Sunday afternoon 6-1 in a BIG EAST matchup. With the loss, GU slips to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST while the Wildcats improve to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in the BIG EAST.
Villanova made quick work of the Hoys in doubles, winning all three matches to secure the first team point.
In singles, three matches went to three sets including
Elena De Santis (Avellino, Italy / Convitto Nazionale P. Colletta) at No. 3 who picked up the Hoyas' only team point on the day with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 win over Lindsey Evans.
Sofie Moenster (Oslo, Norway / Ordrup Gymnasium) battled her opponent at No. 1 to three sets, winning the second but ultimately dropping to third 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 while
Risa Nakagawa (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) fell to Kaylan Rotman 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4.
The Hoyas return to the courts on Friday, April 12 to play Navy in Annapolis, Maryland. The match is schedule for 3 p.m. at the Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium.
