Hoyas Say Farewell at Annual Brunch

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University Department of Athletics held its annual senior brunch on Thursday morning at the Healey Family Student Center, hosting one final event to bid farewell to the student-athletes of the Georgetown Class of 2019.

After being welcomed by Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations Dan Trump, the group of more than 100 senior student-athletes were addressed by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed

The class of 2019 enjoyed enormous athletic successes, appearing in a combined 73 BIG EAST Tournaments and bringing 24 BIG EAST Championships home to the Hilltop as well as claiming 21 BIG EAST individual titles. Competing in both the BIG EAST Conference and the Patriot League, this year's senior class combined to garner 147 postseason all-league awards as well as being the recipients of 225 academic all-league honors.

The brunch featured a keynote address from Georgetown baseball alum Tom Purcell (F'93), who spoke to the senior class about how athletics gave him the confidence and ability to take risks in his professional life that paid off down the road.  He stressed that both the successes and failures as a Georgetown student-athlete have prepared the seniors for their life beyond the Hilltop.

Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) President Abby Lake (Norwood, Mass. / Ursuline Acaemy) addressed the crowd reflecting on her time as a student-athlete and she was followed by Director of Engagement for Athletics Development Kelli Myers who welcomed the graduates into the Georgetown Letterwinners Society and encouraged them to make giving back a habit in their daily lives.

The athletics department then recognized the student-athlete with the highest GPA in each of Georgetown's four schools:

School of Foreign Service – Yusuf Mallick, sailing
Georgetown College – Kevin Jackson, men's golf
Nursing and Health Studies – Megan Walsh, women's rowing
McDonough School of Business -- Justin Summers, men's swimming & diving

A special recognition was given out as Dr. Patrick Kilcarr was honored with the Outstanding Contribution to Georgetown Athletics award.  Kilcarr is a licensed professional counselor who has been instrumental in Georgetown's mental health initiatives.  He has shown dedication and compassion for all of the Hoya student-athletes giving up his time for the sake of their well-being.

At the brunch, the student-athlete received their graduation stoles, as well as their varsity letter plaques and a group picture concluded the festivities.
