JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Georgetown University track & field team is in Jacksonville, Florida and ready for the NCAA Outdoor Championships East Preliminary Round. Georgetown secured 12 athletes, scattered across six different events. The three-day meet will be held at the University of North Florida and streamed live on FloTrack and available through a FloPro subscription. Live results will be available on GUHoyas.com. The meet serves as a precursor to the final site of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, this year held in Austin, Texas and hosted by the University of Texas.
The Blue & Gray boasts eight men competing in three different events. First on the track will be a trio of Hoya All-Americans competing in the men's 1,500-meter run on Thursday. GU enters the meet with a wealth of experience as
Spencer Brown (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton),
Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I. / La Salle Academy) and
Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) all competed in the event at this stage a season ago. Wareham went on to advance to the semifinals in Eugene, Oregon.
Later Thursday evening, a quartet of GU runners will compete in the 800-meter first round with All-Americans
Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) and
Ruach Padhal (London, Ont. / John Paul II Catholic) each making repeat appearances on the line. Joining the duo will be All-American
Kenny Rowe (Cockeysville, Md. / Loyola Blakefield) and
Ian Delgado (Cary, N.C. / Green Hope). Rowe most recently won the 800-meter title at the BIG EAST Championships, marking the sixth-straight league title for the Blue & Gray. It was less than one month ago that the quartet raised a wheel at the 125th Penn Relay Carnival in the Championship of American Men's 4x800m Relay.
On Friday,
Christian Liddell (Rogers, Ark. / Rogers / Oklahoma State) will toe the line in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Liddell's appearance in the quarterfinals follows a one-year drought for Georgetown in the event. In recent years, GU has found success in the event with a pair of Hoyas taking second and fifth in the steeple finals just two seasons ago.
The women's squad will see a quartet of competitors in three different events. Freshmen
Sami Corman (Bellevue, Wash. / Issaquah) and
Cathilyn McIntosh (Loomis, Calif. / Del Oro) will be the first on the track as the duo will compete in the 800-meter first round on Thursday evening. McIntosh won the BIG EAST 800-meter title while Corman anchored the BIG EAST-winning 4x800-meter relay squad earlier this month.
On Friday,
Meg Mathison (Middleton, Wis. / Waunakee / Carleton College) will make an appearance in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinals on Friday evening. Mathison ran a personal record (PR) at the Penn Relays as she took sixth overall and was the top finisher among a quartet of GU runners.
Josette Norris (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly / North Carolina) will be the final Hoya on the track as she competes in the 5,000-meter semifinals on Saturday. Norris is coming off the BIG EAST Championships where she captured a pair of titles as she won the 1,500-meter run and led off the winning 4x800-meter relay.
