Scarlett Schneider, Ph.D. Joins Athletics Development Team

WASHINGTON – Georgetown Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed announced the hiring of Scarlett Schneider, Ph.D. as the new Senior Director of Development, Athletics on Thursday.  Dr. Schneider comes to the Hilltop after leading the fundraising arm of the West Virginia University Cancer Institute.

"Dr. Schneider will be a huge asset to our Development team as we embark on the next capital campaign and we are excited to welcome her to the Hilltop," said Reed.  "She is an exceptional fundraiser with a proven track record of success everywhere she has been.  Donor cultivation is the lifeblood of any university and Dr. Schneider's vision and level of expertise will continue to help us meet our goals."

Dr. Schneider is no stranger to athletics development having significantly advanced athletics fundraising goals at numerous universities in her career.  She has served as the executive director of athletics development at the University of Pennsylvania, the senior executive director of development and associate athletic director for George Washington University, the director of athletic development at the University of Delaware and held similar positions at The Ohio State University as well as Virginia Tech.

Highlights from Dr. Schneider's various tenures include creating the Buff and Blue Fund at GW, surpassing fundraising goals in multiple fiscal years at Penn and managing record growth in dollars raised at Delaware. In addition, she is incredibly active in the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) serving in a number of positions including president (2016-17).

Dr. Schneider has been in university fundraising for more than 25 years.  In her most recent stint at WVU, she surpassed goals and also partnered with the athletics department on signature events.

The Virginia Tech graduate holds three degrees from the institution.  She earned her bachelor's degree in marketing education and a master's in sports management.  She later received her doctorate in education administration and higher education.

"I'm so excited to be coming to Georgetown and for the opportunity to continue cultivating donor relationships as the University moves into a new campaign," said Schneider.  "I'd like to thank (Senior Associate Vice President, University Development) Annamarie Bezzerides and Lee Reed for the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of our Hoya student-athletes with gifts that enhance their day-to-day experience.  Georgetown is a special place and I'm honored to join such a talented group of individuals who have a passion for the University."
