Hoyas Head to New York City for BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field teams will travel to Randall's Island, New York on Friday for the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships for two days of competition this weekend. Georgetown will participate in a number of events throughout both days starting with the women's long jump at 11 a.m. on Friday. The first track event for the women starts at 1 p.m. with the 1,500-meter prelims while the first men's event kicks off at 1:15 p.m. with the 1,500-meter prelims. The championship meet will be held at Icahn Stadium.

"We expect to come away from this weekend with quite a few individual championships on both the men's and women's side, as well as in the relays," Director of Track & Field Julie Culley said. "The team has come along nicely this spring season and we are poised to have our finest performances of the year. We understand what's at stake in each event and we look forward to a big weekend of competition."

Men's Preview
The men's squad will feature a pair of All-Americans in the first race of the day. Spencer Brown (Wilton, Conn. / Wilton) and Jack Salisbury (Rumford, R.I. / La Salle Academy) will join a talented field in the 1,500-meter prelims. Both are coming off a collective third-place finish in the 4xMile Championship of America (COA) event two weeks ago at Penn Relays. All-American Ruach Padhal (London, Ontario / John Paul II Catholic) headlines the 400-meter prelims having surged to a victory in the 800-meter run at the Kehoe Invitational in a time of 1:49.19 last Saturday.

All-Americans Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic), Nick Wareham (Woodbury, Minn. / Woodbury) and Kenny Rowe (Cockeysville, Md. / Loyola-Blakefield) join Ian Delgado (Cary, N.C. / Green Hope) and Brennan Munley (Clarkson, Mich. / Waterford Mott) in the 800-meter run. White is looking to secure his fourth BIG EAST title in the event. The trio of White, Rowe and Delgado each played a pivotal role in winning the 4x800-meter relay COA to capture Georgetown's 26th Penn Relays wheel. All-American Lawrence Leake (Huntington, N.Y. / Huntington) will run in the 400-meter hurdles while Wareham and Christian Liddell (Rogers, Ark. / Rogers) will race in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday.

Women's Preview
On the women's side, freshman Eni Akinniyi (Denton, Texas / John H. Guyer) will look to cap off her first collegiate campaign on a strong note in the long jump. Josette Norris (Tenafly, N.J. / Tenafly), Rachel Sessa (Tewksbury, Mass. / Tewksbury Memorial) and Meg Mathison (Middleton, Wis. / Waunakee) compete in the 1,500-meter prelims while sophomore Vickie Milledge (Simsbury, Conn. / Simsbury) runs in the 100-meter hurdles. Norris is coming off the second-fastest anchor leg in the program history in the COA Distance Medley Relay at Penn Relays recording a time of 4:33.40.

The freshman duo of Sami Corman (Bellevue, Wash. / Issaquah) and Cathilyn McIntosh (Loomis, Calif. / Del Oro) lead a competitive group in the 800-meter prelims. In the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Sessa joins Katie Dammer (Clarks Summit, Pa. / Abington Heights) and Katherine Modrall (Carmel, Ind. / Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory) who have all cracked the top five in this event earlier this season.
