WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's and women's swimming & diving programs were both selected as Scholar All-America teams, when the honors were awarded by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Tuesday.
To be eligible for Scholar All-America recognition, a team must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), as defined by the institution, for the spring semester. The team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes. A record 777 teams, representing 480 institutions were honored across all NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA Divisions.
The men's team recorded a spring GPA of 3.55 to rank fourth among 106 Division I men's programs. The Hoyas finish tied with Villanova for the highest mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The GU women turned in a 3.60 GPA over the spring semester to place among the top 20 percent of 184 Division I women's programs. The Blue & Gray tied with Southern Illinois and Texas for 33rd nationally and w second among BIG EAST programs.
The CSCAA will announce its individual Scholar All-Americans next week.
The Georgetown men finished second at the 2019 BIG EAST Championships, while the women placed third. The Hoyas won six gold medals overall and set 15 program records. Georgetown had a league-high 24 student-athletes earn All-BIG EAST honors with 13 women receiving all-conference recognition in 17 events, while the men's squad saw 11 student-athletes earn accolades in 32 events.
