Bucaro, Wittenberg Named USILA Scholar All-Americans

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's Daniel Bucaro (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) and Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) capped of their collegiate careers by being named United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Scholar All-Americans on Thursday. The duo are the 15th and 16th Hoyas in program history to garner the accolade.

Both players were also recently named second team All-Americans by the USILA.

Bucaro, a USILA All-American in 2018 and a two-time Tewaaraton Award Nominee, concluded his career as one of the top players in Georgetown history. As a senior, he set the program record for goals in a season with 61 and added 26 assists for 87 points, third most in a single season on the Hilltop. Named the BIG EAST Attack Player of the Year, Bucaro was an All-BIG EAST selection all four years with the Hoyas, the first player in program history to do so. For his career, he scored a school-record 153 goals and dished out 73 assists for 226 points. Just the second Hoya to amass at least 200 career points, Bucaro finished his tenure with the Blue & Gray second all-time in scoring.

Wittenberg was also an All-BIG EAST First Team selection and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the BIG EAST Championships in Denver. As a senior, he tallied 23 goals to go with 37 assists, including a Georgetown record eight in the BIG EAST Championship semifinal. Playing his first two seasons at Mercer, Wittenberg amassed 155 points on 72 goals and 83 assists overall, with 103 points (46G, 57A) coming on the Hilltop. He is the 26th player in program history to reach the 100 career point mark at Georgetown.

A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Simply being a member of the North/South team and/or being all-league/conference does not make the student-athlete a lock for the award. Each individual will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Scholar AA committee.

Georgetown went 13-5 overall in 2019, winning its second-straight BIG EAST title. The Hoyas tied the program record for wins in a season and made their 13th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
