WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's basketball team will face Texas in the semifinals of the 25th annual Empire Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, as announced on Thursday. The Hoyas and Longhorns will square off on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York with the winner facing the victor of the other semifinal showdown between Cal and Duke in the championship on Friday, Nov. 22.
A consolation game between the two non-advancing teams will precede the championship game on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. All four games at the Garden will air on ESPN networks.
Additionally, the Hoyas will also host a pair of regional round games at Capital One Arena against Central Arkansas on Saturday, Nov. 9 and Georgia State on Sunday, Nov. 17.
Georgetown and Texas have met on the hardwood twice in program history with each program claiming a victory. The Longhorns won the initial meeting with a 78-70 home win in Austin during the 1971-72 season while the Hoyas earned a 64-41 victory at the Jimmy V Classic at the Garden during the 2012-13 campaign.
November's meeting with Central Arkansas will be the first for the Hoyas after the Bears transitioned to Division I in 2006. Georgetown is 2-0 all-time against Georgia State, winning both ends of a home-and-home series in 1997-98 and 1998-99. The Hoyas defeated the Panthers 89-72 in the Nation's Capital before winning 83-68 to close out the series in Atlanta.
