WASHINGTON – The No. 13 Georgetown women's soccer team (1-1-0) will hit the road this week to face No. 10 Duke (1-1-0) on Wednesday evening in Durham, North Carolina. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium and will be aired live on the ACC Network with Lori Lindsey and Jon Yardley calling the game. Live stats will also be available at GUHoyas.com.
About the Hoyas
- The Hoyas went 1-1 in their opening week of play, defeating James Madison 2-1 in the season opener and then falling 3-1 on Sunday to No. 21 NC State
- Graduate student Amanda Carolan scored a goal in each game, earning a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as well as a spot at No. 9 on the all-time leading scoring list at Georgetown with 25 career goals
- Freshman Julia Leas recorded her first career goal in Thursday's victory over the Dukes
- In the net, freshman Anna Leat has played all 90 minutes in both matches and registers a 2.00 GAA with six saves to her name
- Georgetown started out the season ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll
About the Opponent: Duke
- The Blue Devils also went 1-1 in their opening week in the 2019 Carolina Nike Tournament hosted by North Carolina
- Duke shut out La Salle 2-0 in Thursday's season opener and then lost 2-0 to No. 2 UNC on Sunday
- Against the Explorers, Duke scored both of its goals in the second half by Ella Stevens and Marykate McGuire
- The Blue Devils started out the season ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll and were picked to finish fourth in the ACC Preseason Poll
Series History
Wednesday will be the third meeting between the Hoyas and the Blue Devils. Both meetings occurred in the 2018 season. The first match was in GU's home opener on Aug. 23 which resulted in a scoreless draw between the No. 15 Hoyas and the No. 11 Blue Devils. The second meeting was during the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 18 at Shaw Field. The top-seeded Hoyas knocked out No. 4-seeded Duke in the third round 4-1 to advance to the quarterfinals. Senior Paula Germino-Watnick tallied five points from two goals and an assist in the postseason match against Duke.
