WASHINGTON – Georgetown University sailing's
Haddon Hughes qualified for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Women's Singlehanded National Championships over the weekend. Hughes clinched a spot in the national event when she placed third at the Faye Bennett Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women's Singles, a two-day event that concluded on Sunday in Annapolis, Maryland.
Hughes captured the program's first national title in the women's singlehanded discipline in 2015 when she was a freshman.
2019 FAYE BENNET MAISA WOMEN'S SINGLES NOTES
- Haddon Hughes tallied 56 points to finish third overall at the conference championship.
- Hughes started slow but in races 4-11, Hughes placed among the top four including a winning performance in race 11.
- The top four finishers automatically qualified for the 2019 ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Championships.
- Other Hoyas in the competition included Carly Broussard (5th, 64 points), Macey McCann (7th, 92) and Marley Mais (11th, 154).
