WASHINGTON – Graduate students Spencer Brown and Madeline Perez of the Georgetown University cross country teams were named as the BIG EAST Cross Country Male and Female Athletes of the Week, announced on Tuesday afternoon. Brown and Perez were recognized for their performances at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational this past Friday.
Brown ran the 5.2-mile course in 25:39.8 and finished in second place. Along with leading the Hoyas as runner-up, the graduate student finished ahead of all of the Penn State runners, who won the meet.
Perez ran the 6,000-meter course in 20:53.4 and placed second. Perez propelled the Blue & Gray to a first-place finish, which ended the Nittany Lions' seven-year winning streak. Heading into the meet, PSU was ranked No. 14 in the USTFCCCA poll.
The men's team will travel to South Bend, Indiana on October 4 to compete in the Joe Piane Invitational while the women's team will travel to Lehigh, Pennsylvania on October 5 to compete in the Paul Short Invitational.
