No. 15 Women’s Soccer Takes on No. 5 Virginia and Lafayette

WASHINGTON – The No. 15 Georgetown women's soccer team (2-1-1) will visit No. 5 Virginia (4-0-0) on Thursday night at Klöckner Stadium for a top-25 showdown. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Hoyas will then host Lafayette (1-2-1) at Shaw Field on Sunday at 1 p.m.

About the Hoyas

  • The Hoyas went 1-0-1 last week, including a scoreless draw against then-No. 10 Duke and a 2-0 shutout over Bucknell
  • Senior Meaghan Nally was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday; she anchored a defense that allowed the Bison to take just three shots on Sunday, all occurring in the second half
  • Between both matches, GU outshot its opponents on the week by a combined 33-13 margin
  • Senior Paula Germino-Watnick scored the first goal of the match against Bucknell in the fourth minute and sophomore Caitlin Moon recorded her first collegiate goal in the 44th minute

Scouting the Competition: Virginia

  • The unbeaten Cavaliers have shut out all but one opponent so far this year and have allowed just one goal from all four of their opponents
  • UVA shut out East Carolina on Friday 4-0 and defeated then-No. 12 West Virginia 4-1 on Sunday
  • Freshman Diana Ordonez was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday and leads the squad with 18 points from eight goals and a pair of helpers; she leads the nation in goals per game (2.00) and points per game (4.50)
  • Junior Laurel Ivory has played 335 minutes at goal, allowing one goal while recording three saves

Scouting the Competition: Lafayette

  • The Leopards came to a scoreless draw last Sunday at Hartford after falling to Seton Hall on Thursday 1-0
  • Lafayette will face Delaware State on Friday for its third-straight road match
  • Junior Sophie Saldivar has scored the only goal for Lafayette this season, which occurred in the season opener against St. Francis (NY)

Series History vs. Virginia

  • Georgetown leads the all-time series against the Cavaliers 2-1-0
  • The last two meetings both occurred in the 2016 campaign and GU won both contests
  • The No. 20 Hoyas upset No. 3 Virginia 3-2 in the first meeting of 2016 at Shaw Field during the regular season; the Cavaliers scored both of its goals in the first 10 minutes of play and the Blue & Gray responded with three-straight goals later on in the contest, including a goal from graduate student Amanda Carolan
  • The two squads met again in the NCAA Tournament when No. 5 Georgetown shut out No. 15 UVA 2-0 at Shaw Field to advance to the quarterfinals
