Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 15 Georgetown Falls to No. 5 Virginia

WASHINGTON – The No. 15 Georgetown women's soccer team fell 2-0 to the No. 5 Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday evening in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Hoyas gave up a goal in each half, falling to 2-2-1 on the season while Virginia continues its 5-0 unbeaten streak.

COACH NOLAN ON THE MATCH

This game was always going to be a real test for us. Virginia is a top side with a special player up front. We set out to play in a compact way and tried to counter them when we could. I credit our players for executing that plan really well and being down 1-0 with five minutes left, I always felt we could get one, and we almost did. As it often happens, we left ourselves exposed when we were chasing the game and they scored their second goal. We now have to get ready for Lafayette on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Virginia got on the board in the 10th minute with a goal inside the box.
  • The Cavaliers made it 2-0 with five minutes left to play in the second half.

OF NOTE

  • The Hoyas allowed two goals from the Cavaliers, the least amount of goals UVA has scored in a match all season.
  • Virginia outshot GU 11-6, but the Blue & Gray only allowed UVA to take three shots in the second half compared to eight in the first half.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Anna Leat recorded four saves for Georgetown.
  • Senior Paula Germino-Watnick created the most opportunities for GU on the evening and took a team high of three shots.
