WASHINGTON -- Graduate student Spencer Brown of the Georgetown University indoor track team was named the BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week, announced on Wednesday afternoon. Brown was recognized for his performance at the Nittany Lion Challenge this past Saturday. 

During his first indoor race of the season, Brown finished in first place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:16.36, nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. His time is currently ranked no. 3 in the conference and no. 11 in the nation. 

This is Georgetown's first BIG EAST recognition after competing in two meets. 

The Hoyas will travel to Blacksburg, Virginia on Jan. 24 to compete in the Hokie Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech.
