Georgetown Travels to Villanova on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will make the trip to Pennsylvania this weekend to take on the Villanova Wildcats at Finneran Pavilion on Saturday evening at 6 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with Matt Janus and Christine Motta as well as Meghan Caffrey reporting from the sideline.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (4-13, 1-5 BIG EAST) are coming off of a tough weekend going 0-2 at McDonough Arena with a loss to Xavier (85-64) on Friday and dropping a 47-46 heartbreaker to Butler on Sunday. 
  • On Friday, sophomore Nikola Kovacikova led the way for the Hoyas with 14 points, while graduate student Brianna Jones added 13 as the two Hoyas notching double digits.  Freshman Graceann Bennett had a team-high seven rebounds, and senior Anita Kelava managed six.
  • On Sunday, graduate student Taylor Barnes led the way for the Hoyas with 16 points and Kelava added eight points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Jones scored seven and managed six rebounds along with a team-high five assists.
  • Georgetown shot 35 percent from the field hitting 17-of-48 shots, while Butler was 28 percent hitting 16-of-57 shots. GU was also 88 percent from the charity stripe, making seven of its eight free throws.
  • The Blue & Gray outrebounded the Bulldogs 40-34 and forced 14 turnovers.
  • Barnes leads the team with 12.7 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures.    
  • Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 7.1 rpg.
 
About the Wildcats
  • The Wildcats are 10-7 on the year and 4-2 in BIG EAST play.
  • On Wednesday, Villanova won a share of the Big Five Championship with a 70-58 victory over Penn at Finneran Pavilion.
  • Freshman Maddy Siegrist led the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including a 5-of-8 effort from three-point range. Mary Gedaka finished with 21 points and nine rebounds.
  • The last BIG EAST victory was a 66-54 win over Xavier on Sunday as the Wildcats split last weekend's league contests.
 
Villanova Series
  • The Hoyas are 24-43 against Villanova and 7-24 on the road.
  • Georgetown has won three of the past four meetings including a pair of neutral-site victories at the BIG EAST Tournament.
  • Last year, GU went 2-1 against the 'Cats winning at home (68-63) and in the postseason (76-67) but falling in Pennsylvania by a score of 91-43.
  • Georgetown's last win at Finneran Pavilion was a 57-51 victory during the 2015-16 campaign.
