Georgetown Travels to Marquette and No. 11/12 DePaul This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will hit the road this weekend traveling to Marquette University on Friday for a 12:30 p.m. ET matchup with the Golden Eagles at the Al McGuire Center.  On Sunday, GU will face No. 11/12 DePaul at McGrath-Phillips Arena for a 3 p.m. ET contest.  Both games will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (4-14, 1-6 BIG EAST) is coming off of a 74-53 loss at Villanova on Saturday.
  • Georgetown had just one contest last week facing their travel partner as part of the league schedule.
  • Graduate student Taylor Barnes led the way for the Hoyas with 14 points, while sophomore Nikola Kovacikova posted 13 as the two Hoyas in double figures.  Sophomore Shanniah Wright also had nine for the game.
  • Senior Anita Kelava pulled in nine rebounds to go along with two points in the contest.
  • Georgetown shot 37 percent from the field hitting 18-of-57 shots, while Villanova was 44 percent hitting 27-of-59 shots.
  • The Blue & Gray was outrebounded by the Wildcats 41-32 and forced 10 turnovers.
  • Barnes leads the team with 12.8 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures.    
  • Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 7.2 rpg.
 
About the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette is 13-5 on the year and 4-3 in league play.
  • The squad split last weekend falling to Butler 61-55 on Friday, but bouncing back against Xavier on Sunday with an 80-60 victory.
  • For her efforts, senior Altia Anderson was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after she averaged a double-double with 11.5 points and 11.0 rebounds, which included her first career double-double in a game with 10 points and 14 boards against the Musketeers.
  • MU has three players averaging in double figures as Selena Lott leads the way with 15.8 ppg.  She is followed by Isabelle Spingola (10.8 ppg) and Lauren Van Kleunen (10.8 ppg).
  • Anderson leads the Golden Eagles on the glass with 7.0 rpg to go along with her 7.1 ppg.
 
Marquette Series
  • The Hoyas are 4-18 against Marquette and 1-9 on the road.
  • Last year, Georgetown lost all three meetings falling at home 72-62 and on the road 59-52 in an All-Access game.
  • The teams also met in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals where GU fell by a score of 75-62.
  • Georgetown's lone road victory against MU was a 67-39 decision during the 2011-12 campaign.
 
About the Blue Demons
  • DePaul is 17-2 on the season and a perfect 7-0 in league play.
  • The Blue Demons' two losses have come at then-No. 7/6 Oregon State (98-77) and to then-No. 2/2 UConn (84-74) which will be rejoining the BIG EAST Conference next season.
  • This past weekend, DePaul went 2-0 downing Xavier (91-68) and Butler (80-65).
  • Chante Stonewall was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts averaging 16 points, 4.5 rebounds and three steals over two games.
  • Stonewall leads the Blue Demons in scoring with 17.9 ppg to go along with 5.3 rpg.  DePaul currently has four players averaging in double figures.
 
DePaul Series
  • Georgetown is 3-21 all-time against the Blue Demons and 2-10 on the road.
  • GU lost both meetings a season ago falling 69-64 at home and 76-71 on the road.
  • The last Hoya win was an 86-85 triumph in Chicago during the 2017-18 season.
