COACH CULLEY ON THE OVERALL PERFORMANCE
We are thrilled with the energy, enthusiasm and hunger to compete at this point in the season. We accomplished the goals we set out for this meet and are looking forward to continuing the momentum into the Penn State National competition next week.
We saw another great meet with progressive marks from the Hoyas this weekend as we prepare for some of our targeted meets in the coming weeks. We are tuning up for the BIG EAST and NCAA national meet in early March.
COACH CULLEY ON THE MEN'S MEET
The first win of the competition came from sophomore
Maazin Ahmed as he ran a huge personal best in the mile with a mark of 4:04.51 in a loaded field, including Virginia Tech's top-four finisher at the NCAA Cross Country Championships this past fall. Senior
Kenny Rowe followed up Ahmed's win on Saturday by breaking the finish in first place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.82 to lead the Hoyas to two other top-five finishes in the heat. Junior
Lawrence Leake's 400-meter performance garnered him a fifth place finish in his event opener as he demonstrated great form this early in the season. Leake also came back and ran the 4x400-meter relay with a split of 47.
COACH CULLEY ON THE WOMEN'S MEET
On the women's side, sophomore
Sami Corman opened her 2020 campaign after a stellar cross country season with a personal best time of 2:48.27 in the women's 1000-meter run, finishing second overall. Freshman
