Georgetown Takes on Seton Hall, Providence to Close Out Regular Season

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving team wraps up the regular season this weekend when it travels to New Providence, New Jersey for a neutral-site tri-meet against BIG EAST opponents Seton Hall and Providence. The two-day meet, held at the Berkeley Aquatic Center, will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday evening and continue at noon on Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Georgetown sent out its senior class with strong times across the board in a dual meet against Drexel on Saturday at McCarthy Pool. The meet served as Georgetown's Senior Day as the Hoyas recognized their 13 seniors who swam in their final home meet.
  • The Hoya women were led by Alexandra Robertson, who had a pair of individual victories as she won the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM.
  • Gabriella Meringolo (100) and Cristina Barrett (200) combined to sweep butterfly events and Corey Moon came away with a victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
  • Naomi Peng won the 3-meter dive, finishing just .17 points shy of the pool record, and Riley Fujioka won the 1-meter event.
  • The men's squad fell 173-127 despite two wins apiece by Drew Carbone and Brett Sherman.
  • Carbone cruised to easy wins in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke races, while Sherman claimed victories in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.
  • Sean Devlin (50-yard freestyle) and Carlson Temple (200-yard breaststroke) both also came away with victories.

ABOUT THE MEET
  • This is the third-straight year that the Hoyas, Pirates and Friars have met to close out the regular season.
  • Last year, the GU women swept both the host Pirates (168-131) and the Friars (226-71) while the Hoya men split the meet, defeating Providence (229-62) and falling to Seton Hall (173.5-123.5).
  • On the women's side, six different Hoyas picked up swimming victories while Fujioka swept the diving events.
  • Carbone led the men's squad with three individual wins, while Michael Wheeler and Brett Sherman swept the distance events and Griffin Edmonds won the 3-meter dive.
