Softball Announces 2020 Schedule

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2020 season. The Hoyas will face a challenging 55-game slate beginning in February, including six different tournaments along the East Coast to open up the season followed by a competitive BIG EAST schedule. All home games will be played at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
 
The Blue & Gray will open the season on Feb. 7-9 in Fort Myers, Florida at the FGCU Kickoff Classic. Georgetown will play UConn, Delaware, LIU, host FGCU and Boston College.
 
The following weekend takes GU to Rock Hill, South Carolina for the Winthrop Tournament and will play a total of five games Feb. 14-16 against Boston University, Holy Cross, Virginia, host Winthrop and Eastern Kentucky. From Feb. 21-23, Georgetown will head back down to Florida for the Powerline Tournament in Madeira Beach where the Hoyas will see South Dakota, Columbia, Cornell, Manhattan and Stony Brook.
 
GU will stay local from Feb. 28 until March 1 in the Colonial Classic hosted by local rival George Washington. The Blue & Gray will face Princeton, Towson, Morgan State and GW and then will hit the road to Wilmington, North Carolina for the UNC Wilmington Tournament March 6-8. Georgetown will play five games against opponents North Dakota, UNCW and Presbyterian.
 
The final tournament of the 2020 season will be local in the Cherry Blossom Classic, March 13-15, in Fairfax, Virginia. GU will face Monmouth, Maryland and host George Mason.
 
Georgetown's home opener will take place on March 17 when the Hoyas face UConn for the second time this season. GU will also host nonconference games against Howard on March 24, Towson on April 7 and George Mason on April 22. Its only nonconference road game will be on April 1 down the road at George Washington.
 
The BIG EAST has moved to Friday-Saturday-Sunday, three-game series in 2020. The Hoyas will open up league play March 20-22 at Villanova before heading to Chicago to see DePaul March 27-29. Georgetown will also travel to Providence April 9-11, which will be a doubleheader on Thursday and a single game on Saturday due to Easter Weekend. Its final road series will be April 24-26 at Creighton.
 
The Hoyas will welcome Butler (April 3-5), Seton Hall (April 17-19) and will close out the season against St. John's on May 1-3. Senior Day will be held on May 3 against the Red Storm.
 
The top four teams in the BIG EAST standings will qualify for the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament, May 8-9, in Rosemont, Illinois.
 
Georgetown finished the 2019 season 14-35 overall and 6-13 in the BIG EAST. The squad lost four Hoyas but welcomed four more newcomers for the 2020 competition year.
