Hoyas Host Xavier and Butler This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will have its first nationally televised game of the season continuing BIG EAST Conference play this weekend hosting Xavier on Friday and Butler on Sunday at McDonough Arena.  Tipoff against the Musketeers is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., while the Hoyas will face the Bulldogs on Sunday at 2 p.m.

  • Friday's game will be broadcast live on FS2 with John Fanta and Monica McNutt calling the action.
  • Sunday will be on the BIG EAST Digital Network as Ben Gordon-Goldstein and Eric Thibault call the game.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (4-11, 1-3 BIG EAST) are coming off of a tough road swing last weekend falling to St. John's (71-54) on Friday and Seton Hall (79-60) on Sunday.
  • On Sunday, graduate student Taylor Barnes led the way with a career-high 26 points and classmate Brianna Jones added 11 as the two Hoyas notching double digits.
  • Senior Anita Kelava had a team-high 10 rebounds, while sophomore Tayanna Jones was second with six.
  • Georgetown shot 40 percent in the game hitting 21-of-52 shots, while Seton Hall was 45 percent from the field hitting 31-of-69 including 48 points in the paint.
  • GU was outrebounded 39-32 and committed 23 turnovers to the Pirate's 13.
  • On Friday, sophomore Nikola Kovacikova led the way with 15 points, while Barnes managed 13 and Brianna Jones scored 11 to round out those in double figures.
  • Barnes leads the team with 13.1 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures.    
  • Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 6.7 rpg.
 
About the Musketeers
  • The Musketeers are 1-13 on the year and 0-3 in league play with the lone victory coming against Utah 70-63 in the season opener.
  • Xavier dropped a 78-70 game with Butler on Saturday at Cintas Center. Junior A'riana Gray posted her 19th career double-double, scoring a career-high 28 points to go along with 13 rebounds. She was 9-for-10 from the floor and 8-for-10 from the foul line. She added a game-high five steals.
  • Freshman Morgan Sharps added 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting from behind the arc. She has now scored in double figures four times this season.
  • Xavier made 10 3-pointers in the game, its third game of the season with 10 or more 3-pointers.
 
Xavier Series
  • The Hoyas are 9-6 against Xavier and 5-1 at home.
  • Georgetown has won the last seven meetings including a pair of victories a season ago.
  • Last year at home, GU managed the 68-61 win as four Hoyas scored in double figures.
  • In the final game of the regular season, the Blue & Gray won 67-64 in Ohio as Dionna White and Dorothy Adomako both posted double-doubles.
 
About the Bulldogs
  • The Bulldogs are 9-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
  • Butler is coming off of the 78-70 win at Xavier on Saturday. 
  • Naira Caceres led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds and a team-best four steals. Caceres and Kristen Spolyar each scored 23 points to pace the offense for the team's first BIG EAST win of the season. Four Bulldogs ended the contest in double figures as Katherine Strong chipped in with 11 and Oumou Toure was right behind with 10.
 
Butler Series
  • Georgetown is 6-6 all-time against the Bulldogs and 3-3 at home.
  • In the last meeting at home, the Hoyas fell 59-50 over opening weekend a season ago.
  • In Indiana, Georgetown managed a huge 72-42 win with White notching the double-double in the victory.
