WASHINGTON – Things may look a bit different on the Hilltop this fall due to the cancellation of fall sports because of COVID-19, but the Georgetown University women's soccer squad finds ways to continue its close-knit team culture virtually. The Hoyas welcomed six freshmen and two transfers to the team this season, and even though fans won't get a chance this fall to see them in action on Shaw Field, GUHoyas found a way to introduce them to the fans, brought to you by PNC Bank.
Next up we have defender
Alex Bair, a local freshman student-athlete from McLean, Virginia.
At what point did you realize you wanted to play college soccer?
Bair: I had always loved playing soccer since I was really little, but I realized that I wanted to play college soccer when I was in middle school. The club teams started getting more competitive and it was then when I decided to fully commit to playing soccer. I was always a competitive person, so I knew that if I wanted to keep doing this that I had to work really hard. College soccer was just the next level I wanted to achieve to continue my passion for soccer.
What brought you to the Hilltop/why did you choose Georgetown?
Bair: There were many different reasons why I chose Georgetown. It is a top-tier academic school with great athletic programs in an unbeatable location. When I visited, the players on the team seemed very close and I knew that was something that I wanted when being part of a team. I just knew that coming to Georgetown would be a tremendous opportunity to succeed in all aspects of being a student-athlete.
Favorite athlete and why?
Bair: Serena Williams because she fights very hard in every match she plays and has continued to focus on her game after having a baby and getting older.
If I didn't play soccer, I would …
Bair: be a skier because I love skiing.
When you're not on the soccer field, where can one find you?
Bair: If I'm not doing homework then I'm probably hanging out with my friends.
What's one fact about you that would surprise other people?
Bair: I love hiking
What are you majoring in in college? What do you hope to be?
Bair: I'm majoring in neurobiology and am pre-med. I hope to be a doctor one day!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things couldn't you live without?
Bair: My to-do lists, my twin sister and snacks.
I know it's only been a few weeks since you've started, but what has been the hardest part so far for you as a freshman in college?
Bair: I think the hardest part has probably been adjusting to college classes with the added stress of it being online. It is already so different from high school and then everything with Zoom makes it even weirder.
