WASHINGTON – Things may look a bit different on the Hilltop this fall due to the cancellation of fall sports because of COVID-19, but the Georgetown University women's soccer squad finds ways to continue its close-knit team culture virtually. The Hoyas welcomed six freshmen and two transfers to the team this season, and even though fans won't get a chance this fall to see them in action on Shaw Field, GUHoyas found a way to introduce them to the fans, brought to you by PNC Bank.
Next up is
Eliza Kelly, a goalkeeper joining the Hilltop from Louisville, Kentucky.
At what point did you realize you wanted to play college soccer?
Kelly: I had wanted to play college soccer since I first started playing. I always looked up to the older plays at my club and wanted to achieve the same level of success as they did by playing in college.
What brought you to the Hilltop/why did you choose Georgetown?
Kelly: I loved the team atmosphere, which was apparent even at id camps, as well as the location in the Nation's Capital. I also found it to be the perfect blend of rigorous academics and athletics at Georgetown, which was a big factor!
Favorite athlete and why?
Kelly: My favorite athlete is Megan Rapinoe because while she is an amazing soccer player and also a good person who stands up for what she believes in and uses her platform to inspire change.
If I didn't play soccer, I would …
Kelly: dedicate a lot more of my time to photography.
When you're not on the soccer field, where can one find you?
Kelly: hanging out with friends, studying, watching a movie, on FaceTime with my siblings, listening to music, or exploring the D.C. area.
What's one fact about you that would surprise other people?
Kelly: I have a collection of vinyl records!
What are you majoring in in college? What do you hope to be?
Kelly: Undeclared major in the college, pre-med concentration. I hope to pursue a career in the medical field.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things couldn't you live without?
Kelly: My family (because I need people to talk to), lots of food (because I'm always hungry) and a soccer ball.
I know it's only been a few weeks since you've started, but what has been the hardest part so far for you as a freshman in college?
Kelly: The hardest part is spending multiple hours a day on the computer for class and then even more additional time outside of that to complete assignments and review content. I try to take "brain breaks" throughout the day where I am not looking at the screen and doing something active!
