WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team (1-9) will head back down to Florida this weekend for the Madeira Beach Tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida. The Hoyas will play five games over the course of three days beginning on Friday, Feb. 21 at the Madeira Beach R.O.C. Complex.

About the Hoyas
- Georgetown went 1-4 last weekend in the Winthrop Tournament in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The Blue & Gray found its first win of the season against Holy Cross in a 2-1 victory. Junior Savannah Jones scored both runs for GU off of a pair of homers and junior London Diller got the win in the circle with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
- Sophomore Mae Forshey leads the Hoya offense batting .300 at the plate. She has nine hits on the season, including a pair of doubles and a home run. Jones ranks second on the squad with a .250 batting average off of seven hits, two doubles and three home runs, and has scored four runs for GU as well as brought in three RBIs.
- Diller holds a 2.82 ERA from 27.1 innings of work. The junior has struck out 31 batters and has allowed just 17 hits.
About the Tournament
- All of the teams that GU will face this weekend with the exception of South Dakota will be opening up their 2020 seasons on Friday.
- South Dakota is 4-7 on the season and went 2-4 last weekend and saw victories against Georgia State (3-1) and Monmouth (3-1). Courtney Wilson leads USD with 14 hits on the season and is batting .389 at the plate. Sarah Lisko is 3-1 in the circle and holds a 2.76 ERA from 33.0 innings of work.
- Columbia finished the 2019 season with a 24-21 mark and was selected as the top team in the Ivy League Preseason Poll. The Lions return six all-conference selections this season.
- The Big Red went 10-36 last season and are returning three All-Ivy League selections from last year.
- The Manhattan Jaspers are coming off of a 21-29 record from last season. Annie Moore is returning to the squad and was selected to the 2020 Preseason All-MAAC Team after being named to the league's All-Rookie Team last year.
- Coming off of one of their most successful seasons in program history with a 32-19 record and a trip to the America East Championship, the Stony Brook Seawolves were chosen as the team to beat in the conference preseason poll. Stony Brook is returning two-time America East Player of the Year Melissa Rahrich and a three others who received all-conference honors.
