Hoyas Host No. 12/13 DePaul and Marquette in Home Finale Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will host the No. 12/13 DePaul University Blue Demons and the Marquette University Golden Eagles in a pair of home matchups this weekend.  Friday's tip against the Blue Demons is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the Hoyas will face Marquette at 2 p.m. for a Senior Day celebration.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (5-20, 2-12 BIG EAST) lost a tough 48-40 decision last weekend against the Villanova Wildcats on Sunday.
  • Georgetown trailed by one at the half and led early in the fourth quarter, but could not hold on down the stretch.
  • Nikola Kovacikova was the lone Hoya in double figures with 12 points as all nine players that played scored in the contest.  The sophomore also managed four rebounds and six assists.
  • Senior Anita Kelava pulled down eight rebounds to go along with four points and four blocks.
  • Georgetown shot 28.3 percent from the field hitting 17-of-60 shots while the Wildcats shot 29.6 percent hitting 16-of-54.
  • The Blue & Gray was edged on the glass 41-40 and both squads committed 10 turnovers apiece.
  • Graduate student Taylor Barnes leads the team with 12.4 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures.    
  • Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 7.6 rpg.
 
About the Blue Demons
  • DePaul has spent the season in the national rankings and has already clinched a share of the BIG EAST title with a mark of 24-3 overall and 14-1 in BIG EAST play.
  • The Blue Demons have won five in a row with the their lone conference loss coming against Creighton at home 63-61.
  • Chante Stonewall is leading the team in scoring averaging 17.4 ppg and has been honored by the BIG EAST seven times this season including being named to the honor roll on Monday. 
 
DePaul Series
  • The Hoyas are 3-22 all-time against the Blue Demons and 1-9 at home.
  • Earlier this season, GU fell at DePaul 92-66 as three Hoyas score 10 points apiece in the loss in Chicago.
  • The last meeting at McDonough was a 69-64 loss a season ago.
  • GU has only defeated DePaul once at home, a 74-65 victory during the 2009-10 campaign.
 
About the Golden Eagles
  • The Golden Eagles (20-6, 11-4 BIG EAST) are coming off of a big 76-54 win over Butler this past Sunday at the Al McGuire Center to hold on to second place in the BIG EAST standings.
  • Five Golden Eagles finished in double-figures as MU was led by seniors Altia Anderson and Isabelle Spingola.
  • Anderson finished with a 10-point 12-rebound performance while Spingola ended with a game-high 17 points, landing her a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.                                                                                                                                                   
 
Marquette Series
  • Georgetown is 4-19 against the Golden Eagles and 3-8 at McDonough Arena.
  • Earlier this season, GU fell at Marquette 73-51 as senior Marvellous Osagie-Erese led the way with 10 points as the long Hoya in double figures.
  • The last meeting in The District was a 72-62 Hoya loss last year when the squads met three times with GU falling in all three contests.
