Georgetown Returns Home to Host Xavier



WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team returns home following a two-game road swing in the Midwest to host the Xavier University Musketeers for a Sunday BIG EAST matchup. Tipoff at Capital One Arena is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. The Hoyas come into the contest with a 15-13 overall record with a 5-10 mark in league action.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Georgetown fell at Marquette 96-72 on Wednesday night at Fiserv Forum in its second game in a Midwest road swing.
  • Jagan Mosely led the Hoyas with 19 points, finishing 5-of-10 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.The senior, who leads the BIG EAST in minutes per game, was one point shy of his career high (20) on Wednesday night.
  • Jahvon Blair finished with 18 points, hitting four shots from beyond the arc, and Jamorko Pickett rounded those in double figures with 12 points.
  • Pickett and Mosely grabbed six rebounds apiece, while Blair and Terrell Allen each dished out four assists.
  • The Hoyas shot 41.9 (26-62) percent from the field, including 46.7 (7-15) percent from downtown.
 
ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Omer Yurtseven leads the Hoyas in both scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (10.0 rpg), both of which rank among the top 10 in the BIG EAST. He is one of just three players in the BIG EAST to be averaging a double-double.
  • The Hoyas are second in the BIG EAST with 15.0 assists per game, having recorded at least 20 assists in a game on five occasions. Allen ranks sixth in the conference with 4.1 apg, while Mosely is eighth at 3.5 apg.
  • Blair is currently 14th all-time in program history with 134 career 3-pointers. Mosely has 331 career assists which also ranks 14th on GU's career list.
  • Yurtseven has grabbed 250 rebounds on the season, which is 25th on Georgetown's single-season list.
 
SCOUTING XAVIER
  • Xavier enters Sunday's game with an 18-10 overall record and 7-8 mark in BIG EAST play, most recently defeating DePaul 78-67 at Cintas Center.
  • The Musketeers are averaging 70.8 ppg while allowing opponents to score 67.0 ppg. They lead the BIG EAST in 3-point field goal percentage defense, allowing teams a paltry 29.3 percent (179-610).
  • Naji Marshall leads the squad in scoring (16.9 ppg) followed by Tyrique Jones (13.7) and  Paul Scruggs (12.9).
  • Jones leads the league in rebounding (11.1) while Marshall adds 6.1 rpg.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • Sunday will be the 21st all-time meeting between the Hoyas and Musketeers with Xavier holding a 15-5 series advantage. The two teams met six times before Xavier joined the BIG EAST, including twice in the NCAA Tournament (1990, 1995). 
  • Last season, the squads split the season series with both teams winning on their home court.
  • The Hoyas won 80-71 at Capital One Arena last year to snap a six-game losing streak. Mac McClung finished with 11 points and Jessie Govan had 12. 
  • Earlier this season, the Hoyas dropped a decision at the Cintas Center where McClung led all players with 19 points.
  • Patrick Ewing is 1-4 in his coaching career against the Musketeers.
