WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's tennis team (1-3, 1-0 BIG EAST) picked up it's first win of the season highlighted by knocking off conference foe Seton Hall (1-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) 4-0 on Sunday morning. The Hoyas fell 4-3 in their meeting against the Army Black Knights (4-2) on Saturday afternoon.
"We cannot thank West Point enough for their hospitality; from coaching staff, to administration, to cadets, these individuals represent our country in a first-class manner," said head coach Courtney Dolehide. "To get a win over our in-conference rival, Seton Hall, is a huge step in the right direction for our ladies and is displaying the positive trajectory of our program, after having lost to them last year."
Freshmen Agata Mikos and Olivia Ashton were impressive over the weekend, finishing singles competition 4-0, with the pair going 1-1 as a duo. Mikos defeated Stephanie Dolehide (Army), 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 and Minja Gligic (Seton Hall) 6-1, 6-1 on court two. On court four, Ashton defeated Aina Plana Ventosa (Seton Hall), 6-1, 6-3 and Elizabeth Gilbert (Army), 6-4, 6-4 on her way to a 2-0 weekend.
Sofie Moenster had a strong showing, finishing the weekend 3-0. Moenster edged out Ana Joyner (Army), 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 and defeated Hermehr Kaur (Seton Hall), 6-2, 5-2. She teamed up with Chloe Bendetti to help secure the doubles point for the Hoyas against Seton Hall (def. Michal Matson/Anniek Jansen 6-3)
The Hoyas will visit the Navy Midshipmen on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 12:30 p.m. GU will then host James Madison on Sunday Feb. 9 at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in their home opener, followed by a home meeting against the Drexel Dragons on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
