Hoyas Open Up the 2020 Season at the FGCU Kickoff Classic

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team will open up the 2020 season this weekend in Fort Myers, Florida at the FGCU Kickoff Classic, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. The Hoyas will play five games over the course of three days, beginning on Friday, Feb. 7 and concluding on Sunday, Feb. 9.

  • Friday, Feb. 7 vs. UConn – 9 a.m.
  • Friday, Feb. 7 vs. Delaware – 1:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 8 vs. Long Island University – 3:45 p.m.
  • Saturday, Feb. 8 vs. FGCU – 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 9 vs. Boston College – 9 a.m.

About the Hoyas  
About the Tournament
  • The Hoyas will kick off the season against former BIG EAST rival UConn. The Huskies finished last season 21-29 and will return four all-conference selections to the team. Georgetown has not played against UConn since the program left the BIG EAST in 2013 but GU leads the all-time series 6-3.
  • Delaware is coming off of a 22-29 season and will return seven starters and all three of its pitchers from last year's team.
  • LIU was selected as the team to beat in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Poll this season. The Sharks compiled a 36-18 overall record in 2019 and went 14-2 in conference play to win its 12th NEC regular season crown. The Sharks will return its NEC Pitcher of the Year, NEC Most Improved Player and NEC Rookie of the Year, along with two First Team All-NEC selections.
  • FGCU was picked to finish third in the Preseason All-ASUN Poll with two players selected to the league's preseason team. The Eagles wrapped up the 2019 season going 29-22 overall and 13-7 in conference play while earning a No. 3 seed in the ASUN Softball Tournament.
  • Boston College went 18-35 last season and 4-20 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Eagles will return Emme Martinez, a Second Team All-ACC honoree.
