WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men's tennis team falls to 4-6, 1-1 in the BIG EAST after a close 4-3 loss against George Washington (5-4) on Friday night followed by a second 4-3 outing in a loss to James Madison (5-4). Rohan Kamdar wrapped up the weekend 3-1, going 2-0 in singles play.
Against the Colonials, GU swept the doubles point with Kamdar and Andrew Rozanov defeating Zicheng Zeng and Ben Barnett (GW) 6-3 on court one. Connor Lee and Charlie Sharton picked up a 6-3 win on court two against Lawrence Sciglitano and Jakub Behun (GW). Ian Witmer and Kieran Foster would defeat Ethan Jacobs and Hanyu Liu (GW) 6-3, giving the Hoyas a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
Kamdar and Rozanov would go on to win their singles matches, with Kamdar defeating Ben Barnett (GW) 7-6, 6-3 and Rozanov downing Hanyu Liu (GW) 6-3, 7-5. GU would drop four points in singles play, falling 4-3.
In their meeting against James Madison, the duo of Kamdar and Rozanov fell to Alvaro Arce and Josh Raymundo (JMU) 6-3. Lee and Sharton battled Tate Steinour and Holden Koons (JMU) to the wire, coming up short 7-6. James Madison would take a 1-0 lead into singles competition.
During singles competition, Lee was the victor in a thrilling match on court one against Alvaro Arce (JMU) that ended 7-6, 7-6. On court three, Kamdar came back to edge out Stefan Petrovic (JMU), 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Sharton got the win against Gonzalo Adis (JMU), 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 but the Hoyas came up one point short, falling 4-3.
The Hoyas will return to action on Friday, March 6 to take on the Temple Owls at the Junior Tennis Championship Center.
