Georgetown Earns the No. 9 Seed in the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team has earned the No. 9 seed in the 2020 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep.  The tournament is scheduled to begin on Friday with first round action at WinTrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

The Hoyas earned the No. 9 seed after beating out tenth-seeded Xavier in the tiebreaker.  After unprecedented ties in league play for the 3-7 positions as well as 9-10, the Blue & Gray held the RPI tiebreaker over the Musketeers.  The Hoyas will now face the eighth-seeded Providence College Friars on Friday at noon EST.

The squads split the series this year with the Hoyas picking up the 62-53 win at home, but the Friars defeating Georgetown 62-55 this past Friday in Rhode Island.  This will be the second consecutive season that the squads have met three times after the teams played two games during the regular season and had a third round WNIT matchup a season ago.  Georgetown held the 3-0 edge in that series.

The opening ground games will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

The BIG EAST has a dedicated channel on Caffeine, www.Caffeine.tv/BEDN, where fans can find all BEDN content. In addition to appearing on Caffeine, all BEDN events will be co-streamed on YouTube via the conference's main channel, www.youtube.com/BIGEASTConference, and Twitter on the main BIG EAST handle, @BIGEAST.
