Hoyas Fall to Iowa

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Georgetown University baseball team lost to Iowa 22-2 on Saturday as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic at North Charlotte Regional Park. With the loss, the Hoyas drop to 3-11, while the Hawkeyes improve to 7-4.
 
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • Angelo Tonas started on the mound and allowed four runs in just 1.0 inning of work, while striking out two.
  • Carter Cousins pitched 3.2 innings of relief, striking out one while allowing three runs on four hits. Kevin Gates went 1.1 innings, allowing a run with a strikeout.
  • Ryan M. Davis and AJ Lotsis paced the GU offense with two hits apiece.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Iowa jumped out to a 5-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and another in the second.
  • The Hoyas put runners on base in each of the first three innings before breaking through in the bottom of the fourth. Patrick DeSalvo's first career hit was an RBI single and Simourian delivered a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-2.
  • The Hawkeyes scored 17 runs over the final four innings to close the game.
