Hoyas Celebrate 2019-20 Season During Virtual Banquet

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University swimming & diving program held its annual awards banquet on Saturday, as the team met via Zoom to celebrate the successes of the 2019-20 season. The Hoyas honored the program's 13 seniors one final time and the team awards were handed out.
 
Drew Carbone – Men's Rev. Frank L. Fadner S.J. Most Valuable Performer
  • Carbone earned his third-straight BIG EAST Championships' Male Most Outstanding Swimmer at the 2020 BIG EAST Championships.
  • He earned All-BIG EAST honors in seven events, winning three individual gold medals and three relay titles.
  • Carbone broke an eight-year-old BIG EAST Conference record with a winning time of 1:42.11 in the 200-yard backstroke, marking Georgetown's first ever conference record.
 
Belinda Donohoe / Phoebe Slaughter – Co-Women's Rev. Frank L. Fadner S.J. Most Valuable Performer
  • Donohoe was named All-BIG EAST in five events, finishing third in both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
  • Her time of 23.25 seconds in the 50 free was a personal best.
  • Slaughter earned three All-BIG EAST nods, placing second in the 200-yard backstroke and finishing third in the 400-yard IM.
  • Her time of 4:23.23 in the 400 IM set a new Georgetown record.
 
Michael Baldini / Connor Morikawa – Men's Co-Freshman of the Year
  • Baldini tied for the second-most All-BIG EAST honors on the men's team, earning recognition in five events.
  • He finished third in the 200-yard IM and was on three winning relay teams.
  • Morikawa took home All-BIG EAST honors in four events, winning two relays and finishing second in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke races.
  • He set the school record in both breaststroke events, including becoming the first Hoya to break the two-minute mark in the 200.
 
Corey Moon – Women's Freshman of the Year
  • Moon was a force in the distance events all year, earning All-BIG EAST honors with a second-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
  • She also took fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
 
Matthew Braviak – Men's John "Jake" Hengstler Most Improved Performer
  • Braviak finished among the top eight in three different events at the 2020 BIG EAST Championships, as well as competing on the men's 800-yard freestyle relay.
  • He qualified for the A Final in both the 200-yard backstroke and the 500-yard freestyle, placing seventh and eighth overall, respectively. He also finished eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
 
Riley Fujioka – Women's John "Jake" Hengstler Most Improved Performer
  • Fujioka was named the Most Outstanding Women's Diver of the Meet after sweeping both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.
  • She recorded a 12-dive score of 560.3 to win the 1-meter dive by a 44.15-point margin.
  • In the 3-meter event, Fujioka broke her own record in the prelim with a 303.10 before finishing with a 574.65 to win by 47 points.
 
Alexandra Rieker – Susan Kohl-Malone Female Coaches Award
  • Rieker is the women's recipient of the coaches award for the second-consecutive year after doubling her career All-BIG EAST total with a pair of honors at the 2020 BIG EAST Championships.
  • The junior took third in the 200-yard breaststroke and was also on the GU's third-place 200-yard medley relay team.
 
Jack Reichert – Ted Breck & Otto Kelleher Male Coaches Award
  • Reichert is also the coaches award recipient for a second-straight year after finishing out his senior year with some of his best swims.
  • He set personal bests in both the 50-yard freestyle (20.85) and 100-yard freestyle (46.30) at the 2020 BIG EAST Championships, while also putting forth his best time in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:55.46) at the Terrier Invitational in November.
 
2019-20 RECAP
  • Both the men's and women's squads finished second. The women's 749 points were the most in program history.
  • The Blue & Gray won 11 total gold medals at the meet and set a total of 19 new program records.
  • Head Diving Coach Marc VanDyken earned BIG EAST Women's Diving Coach of the Year honors.
