Hoyas Tennis Says Goodbye to Captain Ian Witmer

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men's tennis team loses their leader in captain Ian Witmer as the 2019-20 school year comes to a close.

Witmer, an accounting major, earned the Hoyas 80 wins in all dual matches while collecting 47 wins during doubles competition and 33 victories in singles play. The North Palm Beach native, led the charge in year four as a team captain. This past season, Witmer worked with his teammates to help raise $71,320 plus for Cycle for Survival, honoring his twin brother Andrew who successfully underwent treatment for medulloblastoma when he was 8.

"It's been a true pleasure coaching Ian for the last 3 years. I've seen him grow from a young sophomore to our senior captain. He is the first one on the court and the last one to leave, leaving his mark as one of the most resilient and hard working Hoyas. As a result, he ended his career playing his best tennis. I have no doubt he'll bring that same energy and work ethic to the business world, and I look forward to hearing and reading about his successes." said Head Coach Courtney Dolehide

To My Georgetown Family:

My four years on the team at Georgetown have been the greatest of my life. I will be forever grateful to the older guys for taking me under their wing and showing me the ropes coming in as the only freshman. Thankfully, I have stayed in touch with all of them. Since arriving, the memories on and off the court have been seemingly endless and unforgettable. Taking on more of a mentoring role the past couple years and building relationships with the younger teammates has been a uniquely rewarding experience as well. I feel incredibly fortunate to have attended Georgetown, played tennis all four years, and have been the captain my last. Thank you to my family (love you Andrew, Mom, and Dad!) for making this all possible and my teammates for always having my back. I look forward to having lifelong friendships and more lasting memories with you guys and all my coaches. Hoya Saxa!
