WASHINGTON – Today the Patriot League Council of Presidents announced a conference-wide decision that student-athletes will not engage in fall sport competition (including both championship and non-championship seasons.) This decision will affect the Georgetown University football and women's rowing programs as members of the Patriot League.
We will continue to work with the Patriot League and University leadership in exploring creative approaches and alternatives to providing future competitive experiences to our fall sport student-athletes, including the possibility of conducting fall sport competition and championships in the second semester. We will share more information on this when it becomes available.
"The current global pandemic has required us to adapt to the world around us, and our priority remains the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff," said Francis X. Rienzo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed. "Today, the Patriot League announced the decision to not engage in competition for the fall season. This conference-wide decision will impact our football and women's rowing programs. Words cannot express the sadness I feel for our student-athletes who have worked tirelessly to achieve their dreams. We will continue to support them through these difficult times and remain steadfast and committed to preparing for when we can all safely return to the Hilltop."
