David Heller Named Georgetown Volleyball Head Coach

WASHINGTON – David Heller has been named the head coach for the Georgetown University volleyball team, as announced by Director of Athletics Lee Reed on Friday.  Heller becomes the ninth head coach for the Hoyas in the program's 46-year history.

"David is an excellent choice to lead the Georgetown volleyball program," Reed said. "He has done a tremendous job leading the team through the unprecedented difficulties of the spring and his coaching success on the court will build a strong foundation for the future."

Heller takes the reins of the Georgetown volleyball program after a season as assistant coach with the Hoyas in 2019. He came to the Hilltop with extensive coaching experience on both the men's and women's side of the sport.

"I would like to thank Lee Reed and Sharon Brummell for the opportunity to lead the Georgetown volleyball program," Heller said. "I am excited and honored to guide this team through the hurdles presented by COVID-19 and come out the other side better prepared for life's challenges."

Prior to his move to the Nation's Capital, Heller was the head men's volleyball coach for six seasons at Mount Olive, an NCAA Division II program in North Carolina, while also serving as an assistant coach with the women's team. He finished his time with the Trojans with a program record 98 wins while coaching 26 all-conference honorees including both an offensive and defensive player of the year recipient, three CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and one AVCA All-American.

Additionally, Heller had spent three years as an assistant coach for Team USA and the Collegiate Men's National Team, representing the United States at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea in 2015 and in Taipei, Taiwan in 2017.

"The team made a great impression on me in the fall and spring and I am looking forward to the next time we all get to be in the gym together," continued Heller. "I know they are ready to put in the work necessary to make moves in the BIG EAST Conference. We have the talent and work ethic to make some great things happen in McDonough Arena, in the classroom and in the community."

Heller graduated from Lewis University in 2008 with a degree in human communication and earned his master's in marketing management in 2013 from Durham University in the United Kingdom.
