Get to Know the Hoyas: Erin Junkmann

WASHINGTON– Things may look a bit different on the Hilltop this fall due to the cancellation of fall sports because of COVID-19, but the Georgetown University women's soccer squad finds ways to continue its close-knit team culture virtually. The Hoyas welcomed six freshmen and two transfers to the team this season, and even though fans won't get a chance this fall to see them in action on Shaw Field, GUHoyas found a way to introduce them to the fans, brought to you by PNC Bank.

First up is freshmen Erin Junkmann hailing from Midlothian, Virginia. The defender played soccer at Midlothian High School and we are so eager to be able to watch her on the back line on Shaw Field when we are able to come back to the Hilltop.

At what point did you realize you wanted to play college soccer?
Junkmann: I've always dreamed about playing college soccer but it seemed possible my freshman year of high school.

What brought you to the Hilltop/why did you choose Georgetown?
Junkmann: I chose Georgetown because the team was super welcoming and I just felt at home when I first came to campus.

Favorite athlete and why?
Junkmann: Becky Sauerbrunn because she is one of the best center backs I've watched and is very dedicated to her game.

If I didn't play soccer, I would …
Junkmann: Probably play lacrosse.

When you're not on the soccer field, where can one find you?
Junkmann: Either in my bed watching TV or doing homework.

What's one fact about you that would surprise other people?
Junkmann: Something most people don't know about me is that I really enjoy cooking/baking.

What are you majoring in in college? What do you hope to be?
Junkmann: I am majoring in human science in the pre-med track.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things couldn't you live without?
Junkmann: If I were stranded on a desert island, I'd take my dog, food and water.

I know it's only been a few weeks since you've started, but what has been the hardest part so far for you as a freshman in college?
Junkmann: The hardest thing has been managing my time.
