Men's Tennis Heads to ITA Atlantic Regional Championships

WASHINGTON – After competing at the River City Tennis Open last weekend, the Georgetown University men's tennis team continues its fall season in in Annapolis, Maryland. Eight Hoyas will play in various singles and doubles matches at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Championship hosted by the United States Naval Academy.

"The team is very young across the board, so the lessons we have learned this fall have been valuable in our growth as a program," said head coach Freddy Mesmer. "College tennis is a lot different than junior tennis, and these young men are figuring that out quickly. To be successful this weekend at Regionals, our players need to be fearless and leave everything out there. It is easy to let the nerves consume you on the court, but whoever manages the big moments with composure and assertiveness will come out on top."

Matches begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday in the singles draw. The Hoyas have seven student-athletes competing on the singles side, and Georgetown is also sending three pairs of doubles partners to play in the tournament. The Hoyas will face off against competition from 15 schools from the ITA Atlantic Region in hopes of advancing to the Super Regional hosted by Old Dominion University held October 22-25. Student-athletes can qualify for the Super Regional by reaching the quarterfinal round in the singles draw or the semifinal round in the doubles draw.

Freshman Jake Fellows comes off a strong singles performance last weekend and looks to continue his success. Fellows pairs with junior Kieran Foster in the doubles draw. Georgetown is also sending Scott Bickel/Harry Yang and Andrew Rozanov/Adhvyte Sharma as partners to play in the tournament. Fellows, Bickel, Foster, Rozanov and Sharma will be joined by their teammates Akira Morgenstern and Charlie Suh in the singles draw this weekend.

Live stats of the matches will be available on GUHoyas.com.
