WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's soccer team secured its 10th win (2-0) of the fall season over the Marquette Golden Eagles. The 2-0 victory saw junior Julia Leas and senior Devon Lis with goals in each half, respectively. The Hoyas move to 10-0-6 on the season and 6-0-2 in league play as Marquette moves to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"I cannot tell you how proud I am of this group, they just continue to get the job done. There are no easy BIG EAST games, in particular on the road. Coming to Marquette is always a war and I thought the girls were fantastic.
We settled into the game very quickly and were well worth our 1-0 at half time. In fact it may have been our best 1st half of the season. Credit to Marquette they still have a lot to play for and they really pressed us and battled until the end. When we scored our 2nd goal it made it hard for them, but they forced 4 corner kicks in the last minute. To our credit the team was determined not to ruin our shut out and defended them bravely."
"Now it's on to the plane tomorrow for a trip to NJ and my alma mater; hoping to get another 3 pts"
About the Win
- The Hoyas battled the cold as they started the first half, and had multiple looks on goal.
- In the 30th minute, sophomore Tatum Lenain stripped the Golden Eagle midfielder at the top of the circle. The ball found junior Gia Vicari on the left flank who slotted it across the 18-yard box to freshman Cyanne Doyle. Doyle laid it off to Leas who struck the ball past the Marquette keeper to put the Hoyas up 1-0.
- The Golden Eagles had a breakaway at the beginning of the second half, but center back Kelly Ann Livingstone was able to end the play quickly.
- In the 72nd minute, GU made its way down the field with Vicari on the left. She found the feet of Doyle in the box who laid the ball back to Lis who placed the ball in the back of the net.
Of Note
- Goalkeeper Allie Augur saw little action as Georgetown kept the majority of possession out of the defensive third.
- The goals by the Hoyas were assisted by the same duo of Vicari and Doyle.
