No. 20/21 Georgetown Handles Seton Hall on the Road

Box Score

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's soccer team secured its 11th win of the season, beating Seton Hall 3-0 in South Orange, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon. The 3-0 victory saw goals by graduate student Sydney Cummings, junior Julia Leas and graduate student Kelly Ann Livingstone. The Hoyas move to 11-0-6 (7-0-2 BIG EAST) on the season as Seton Hall falls to 6-11 (1-8 BIG EAST).

Head Coach Dave Nolan

"Firstly, I have to credit our girls for securing our second win on the road this weekend," said head coach Dave Nolan. "We wanted to keep the pressure on Xavier in a bid to capture the regular season title and we did that comfortably today. Alas, Xavier's win at UConn ensures they take the crown and the right to host. the Tournament Championship."

"We have to take our hat off to Nate Lie and his team, they are having an incredible season and are worthy regular season champions, having gone 9-1 in the league. The fact we haven't lost a game in conference play and still fell short speaks volumes for the strength of BIG EAST soccer this year."

"As for the game itself, in moments we were very good, scored three great goals off set pieces and should have had a few more. On their senior day, Seton Hall played us tough, but I felt we had a little more. We had great performances from Maya Fernandez-Powell, Julia Leas and both Kelly Ann and Sydney."

"Having already locked down a bye for the Big East Tournament our Thursday game versus UConn now becomes a huge game as we aim for a bid and a seed in the NCAA tournament."

About the Win

  • The Pirates took the first shot of the game in the third minute, but goalkeeper Allie Auger gathered the weak shot on target with ease.
  • In the 22nd minute, the Hoyas capitalized off a set piece in their attacking half. Senior Maya Fernandez-Powell launched a lobbing pass that found Livingstone in the Seton Hall box. Livingstone headed the ball to the right side of the box, finding Cummings for a strike to the far corner. Cummings scored to put the Hoyas up 1-0 and carried that lead into the half.
  • Auger snatched the ball out of the air when Seton Hall attempted its first corner of the game in the 56th minute.  The Pirates took one shot on goal five minutes later, but Auger was able to collect it.
  • The Hoyas were determined to score in the second half, and they were not to be denied. Fernandez-Powell earned her second assist of the game when she sent a cross into the box in the 63rd minute. Pirate keeper Grace Gordon came off her line, but Julia Leas got to the ball first, sending a header into the back of the net. Georgetown extended its lead to 2-0.
  • Staying engaged on offense, Livingstone scored a goal for Georgetown in the 71st minute after the Hoyas earned another free kick. The ball was placed just outside the box on the left side of the field and Fernandez-Powell floated a pass over the defense. The ball found Livingstone in the box and her powerful shot bounced off Gordon's gloves into the top of the net, giving Georgetown a 3-0 lead.
  • The Hoyas held strong and took home the 3-0 victory.

Of Note

  • Auger was only challenged once in the first half, as the Hoyas were able to keep Seton Hall off Georgetown's half for most of the game. Auger had four saves on the day.
  • The Hoyas outshot the Pirates 15-5 and attempted six corners to Seton Hall's two.
