Men’s Swimming & Diving Dispatches NJIT, Women Edged by UConn

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's swimming & diving team put together an emphatic 222-78 victory against NJIT while the women's squad was edged by BIG EAST foe UConn 166-126 in Storrs, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.
 
"I'm really proud of the effort and the results after such a hard week of training and travel," Head Coach Jack Leavitt said. "The men and women took a big step from last weekend's results."
 
Men's Highlights
  • The Hoyas won 14 of the 16 events on the day including both relays and both diving events.
  • Georgetown finished 1-2-3 in eight events, including the 400 medley relay, the 50, 500 and 1000 freestyle, the 100 and 200 breaststroke and both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving showcases.
  • Georgetown opened the meet with a sweep in the 400 medley relay before Michael Wheeler, Jack Januario and Matthew Braviak went 1-2-3 in the 1000 freestyle.
  • Will Barao and Jack Brearton then took second and third in the 200 freestyle as Barao was less than half a second behind NJIT's winner.
  • Drew Carbone put the Hoyas back on the medal stand with a win in the 100 backstroke while John McEachern was third.
  • Another 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke saw Ansen Meyer edge teammate Stephen Kim by 0.08 seconds while Carlson Temple was right behind them to finish third.
  • Barao and Nicholas Todorovic then placed second and third in the 200 butterfly before Sean Devlin won the 50 freestyle followed closely by Connor Brennan and Jack Muratori in second and third, respectively.
  • In the 1-meter diving event, the Hoyas swept with Joseph Hofman placing first, followed by Charlie Reichle and Kyle Maziarz.
  • Devlin added another win in the 100 freestyle with Muratori coming in third. Carbone then matched his second win in the 200 backstroke with Liam Ryan placing third.
  • Another 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 breaststroke saw Temple edge Kim and Meyer for the top spot before Brearton, Januario and Wheeler also swept the 500 freestyle to close out the distance events.
  • Michael Baldini won the 100 butterfly while Maziarz, Hofman and Reichle went 1-2-3 in the 3-meter diving.
  • Carbone closed out individual racing with a win in the 200 IM while Kim placed second.
  • Georgetown wrapped up the day with first and second place finishes in the 200 freestyle relay.
 
Women's Highlights
  • The Hoyas won six events, posted six second place finishes and came in third six times. Georgetown swept the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay events as well.
  • Opening the day with a second place finish in the 400 medley relay, the Hoyas then saw Corey Moon and Ryan Evangelista place second and third, respectively, in the 1000 freestyle.
  • Lilly Clisham gave the Blue & Gray their first win of the day in the 200 freestyle before Kylie Stronko and Grace Chen went 2-3 in the 100 backstroke and Erin Hood finished second in the 100 breaststroke.
  • Samantha Hagberg placed third in the 200 butterfly and Lily Gremmels was third in the 100 freestyle before Maddie Haley put the Hoyas back on top of the podium with a win in the 200 backstroke with Stronko finishing third.
  • Hood would add another victory with a win in the 200 breaststroke while Moon, Evangelista and Clisham all swept the 500 freestyle.
  • Another win from Hood, this time in the 200 IM, saw Hailey Harkins finish second.
  • Georgetown would then close things out with a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 freestyle relay.
 
On Deck
The Hoyas return to the Nation's Capital to host BIG EAST rival Villanova on Saturday, October 30 at 1 p.m.

All Georgetown swimming & diving home meets are currently scheduled to take place at McCarthy Pool. In accordance with Washington, D.C. regulations, masks and guest registration are required for attendance at all indoor events on campus.
