WASHINGTON – The No. RV/24 Georgetown women's soccer team beat Butler 1-0 Thursday afternoon in a buzzer-beating victory. After a scoreless 88 minutes of play, the Hoyas were able to get one up on the Bulldogs from a set piece to secure their victory over Butler which is currently the BIG EAST Conference leader. Georgetown rises to 7-0-6 overall and 3-0-2 in the BIG EAST, as Butler earns its second loss of the year falling to 10-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the BIG EAST.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"It was a tough game. They're a good team and are having a great season. I thought in the first half we started off brightly; in the first 15 to 20 minutes we were the better team. We had a couple of good moments in and around the box, but couldn't find that bit of quality to finish them off and they came back and finished out the half strong. I felt that for large parts of the game in the second half that we had them penned in and it was a matter of how can we find that goal. We are always dangerous on set pieces. We have three great players that can get after the ball and it was a quality delivery by Maya and thankfully Sydney was there to finish it. It was a big three points and now we head up to St. John's on Sunday to play another very good team and on their home turf. We are excited for the challenge, but it is nice to win at home again."
