Third Seed Georgetown Hosts Central Connecticut in NCAA First Round

WASHINGTON – The  #3 seeded Georgetown women's soccer team faces Central Connecticut State on Saturday, Nov. 13 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The game will kickoff at noon and be streamed on ESPN3. The Hoyas are coming off winning the BIG EAST Championship on Sunday 1-0 against St. John's. Graduate Student Sydney Cummings scored the game winner in the 64th minute from a cross played in by senior Maya Fernandez-Powell. The Blue Devils won the Northeast Championship for the fourth year in a row over Fairleigh Dickinson 3-0 with Roma McLaughlin, Jamie Collimore, and Zoe McGlynn each tallying a goal.
 
About the Hoyas
  • This is the 10th-consecutive year that Georgetown has qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
  • Junior Gia Vicari tops the tally board for the Hoyas for a total of 25 points. Vicari scored nine goals and recorded seven assists over 20 games. 
  • Senior Maya Fernandez-Powell leads the Blue & Gray with 10 assists. Her ball into Cummings for the lone goal of the game helped GU clinch the BIG EAST Championship title.
  • Cummings was named Most Outstanding Offensive Player in the BIG EAST Championship game and junior Julia Leas earned Most Outstanding Defensive Player as well.
  • Graduate student Kelly Ann Livingstone, Leas, Fernandez-Powell, and Cummings were all named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team.
 
About the Blue Devils
  • McLaughlin leads Central Connecticut with nine goals and three assists for a total of 21 points. She is a member of the Irish National team and formerly played with the U19 and U17 Irish National team along with teammates Glynn, Amanda McQuillan and Aoife Horgan. 
  • Erica Bardes and Kelly Brady each have five assists over their 18 game season.
  • The Blue Devils won the Northeast Conference title on Sunday for the fourth year in a row in a 3-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. 
  • Sydnie Dorman, McQuillan, McGlynn, and McLaughlin were all named to the Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team.
 
Up Next
The winner of tomorrow's match will move on to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on November 19 at either UCLA or Duke.
