Hood Sets Record in 200 IM at Terrier Invitational

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University sophomore Erin Hood broke the school record in the 200 individual medley as the Hoyas had a solid all-around showing on the first day of the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University on Friday. Hood's time of 2:02.39 won the event and broke the GU record by 0.39 seconds, previously held by Laine Morgan since 2017.
 
Overall, the men's team has 485 total points and sits in second place behind only Boston College with 520 points. The women's squad is in fourth place with 247 points and sits ahead of both UMass and Fairfield.
 
Hoya Highlights
  • Georgetown had 37 swimmers advance from the preliminaries to race in Friday's finals events.
  • On the men's side, Georgetown opened the finals with a second-place showing in the 200 freestyle relay.
  • Jack Januario took home the gold in the 500 freestyle with teammate Will Barao coming in third while Drew Carbone added another win for the Hoyas in the 200 IM.
  • Georgetown went 2-3 in the 1-meter diving event with Charlie Reichle and Kyle Maziarz battling for positioning on the podium.
  • Closing out the day, the Hoyas placed second in the 400 medley relay.
  • On the women's side, Corey Moon placed third overall in the 500 freestyle before Hood's record-setting performance gave GU its first win for the women's squad.

The Hoyas return to action on Saturday with the 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke. Preliminary races begin at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 6 p.m. Links to live scoring and video of the finals events can be found on www.GUHoyas.com.
