Sailing Takes Fifth at War Memorial Regatta

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University sailing team took fifth with 169 points at the War Memorial Regatta over the weekend, held in Norfolk, Virginia, with Old Dominion University hosting. Additionally, the Hoyas finished eighth (123 points) at the MAISA Fall Women's Regatta, hosted by Hobart & William Smith in Geneva, New York. .

WAR MEMORIAL REGATTA (Oct. 30-31; Norfolk, Va.; 5th of 18)
  • The A division had flashes of strong sailing with a quartet of top-four finishes, including a trio of runner-up performances, but the inconsistency pushed the Blue & Gray to sixth in the division with 87 points.
  • In the B Division, the Hoyas were more consistently in the top five, with just four races that saw the Hoyas finish outside of the top five. With 82 points, GU managed a fifth-place finish.

  • B Division (5th of 18) Lineup: Diego Escobar (1-10) and Mateo DiBlasi (11-12) [skippers] with Isabelle Bicks (1-10) and Caro Gaston (11-12) [crews]
 
MAISA FALL WOMEN'S REGATTA (Oct. 30-31; Geneva, N.Y.; 8th of 14)
  • In the A division, the Hoyas came away with an eighth-place finish with 78 points as the Hoyas continued to get better with each race, closing the two-day regatta on a third-place finish.
  • The B division was consistent from the get-go, finishing among the top five in half the races, including a win in the fifth race en route to 45 points to finish fourth in the B division.
  • A Division (8th of 14) Lineup: Riley Kloc (1-6) and Morgan Sailer (7-14) [skippers] with Audrey Fung (1-6) and Grace Flanagan (7-12) [crews]
  • B Division (4th of 14) Lineup: Piper Holthus [skipper] with Victoria Boatwright [crew]
 
UP NEXT
The Georgetown sailing team will compete in the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships on November 6-7 in Annapolis, Maryland.
