No. RV/17 Georgetown Heads to Cincinnati for BIG EAST Semifinals

WASHINGTON – The No. RV/17 Georgetown women's soccer team is headed to Cincinnati, Ohio this week for the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals against No. 3 seed Butler. The No. 2 seed Hoyas received a first round bye along with host Xavier, who received the No. 1 seed and play No. 4 seed St. John's on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Georgetown closed out its fall season with a record of 11-1-6 overall and 7-1-2 in the conference. Butler closed out the season 7-2-1 in the BIG EAST and 15-3-1 overall. 
 
About the Hoyas
  • Gia Vicari leads the Hoyas with nine goals and seven assists for a total of 25 points.
  • Maya Fernandez-Powell tallied a record 10-assists for the season and ranks No. 1 in the BIG EAST with nine assists in 10 games.
  • Georgetown leads the conference in goals against average (0.41) and shutouts (11).
  • Allie Augur holds the top goals against average and save percentage for conference goalkeepers.
  • Junior Julia Leas was named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year. 
  • Graduate Student Sydney Cummings was named Defensive Player of the Year.
  • Graduate Kelly Ann Livingstone, junior Gia Vicari, Cummings, and Leas were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team.
  • Graduate Student Daisy Cleverley and junior Allie Augur were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
  • Freshmen Cyanne Doyle and Eliza Turner were named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team. 
 
About the Bulldogs
  • The Bulldogs played in the Quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament on Sunday against UConn where they snagged the win in double overtime to finish 1-0 over the Huskies.
  • Butler finished out their season third in the BIG EAST behind No. 1 Xavier and No. 2 Georgetown.
  • Redshirt junior Katie Soderstrom was named to the BIG EAST First Team.
  • Junior Aliya Diagne and redshirt senior Amanda Kowalski were named to the BIG EAST Second Team.
  • Freshmen Emma Martin and Lauren Doerr were named to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.
  • Soderstrom leads the squad with 29 points from 11 goals and seven assists.
  • Sophomore Alli Leonard is tied with Soderstrom for most assists on the team with seven.
 
Series History
  • Georgetown and Butler faced one another during the 2021 regular season as the Hoyas came out on top with the game-winning goal from Cummings in the 88th minute. The last postseason matchup between the two sides was in the 2020 BIG EAST Championship where Jenna Menta hit a chipped ball over the keeper in overtime to clinch the tournament title.
