Lee Reed will be inducted into the Cleveland State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. Reed joins four additional inductees into the 42nd class in program history.
Reed was the director of athletics at Cleveland State from 2002-10. During his tenure, he guided Cleveland State into one of the top all-around athletics programs in the Horizon League both on the field and in the classroom. Under his guidance, the Vikings claimed their first-ever James J. McCafferty Cup in 2007-08, which is presented annually by the Horizon League in recognition of the league's all-sport champion. During the 2007-08 season, the Vikings won five Horizon League titles including women's basketball, volleyball, softball, men's golf, men's tennis. In his time at Cleveland State, the Vikings claimed 11 total championships and made 15 NCAA Tournament appearances.
After being named the fourth director of athletics in school history in 2002, Reed helped the Vikings progress in the classroom, as he saw significant improvement in the number of student-athletes honored at the annual academic honors luncheon, while the department maintained a 3.00 GPA or higher during seven of his eight years at the helm.
During his time at Cleveland State, Reed also represented the Horizon League on the NCAA Management Council, served as the president of the NCAA I-AAA Athletics Director's Association, was a member of the NCAA Basketball Academic Enhancement Group and served as the chairman of the John McLendon Memorial Minority Postgraduate Scholarship Awards committee.
Reed will be the seventh administrator to be inducted into the Cleveland State Athletics Hall of Fame, but he was also a student-athlete for the Vikings as a former men's basketball student-athlete.
The group will be formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at a ceremony on Saturday, February 5 in the Wolstein Center.
