Women’s Basketball to Host No. 2/1 UConn on Friday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team (1-9, 1-9 BIG EAST) will welcome No. 2/1 UConn (15-1, 12-0 BIG EAST) to McDonough Arena on Friday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference matchup. The opening tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Net with John Sadak and Christy Winters-Scott calling the action.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas lost a close one to the Seton Hall University Pirates 60-52 on Monday evening.
  • The Hoyas were dominant in the paint as sophomore Graceann Bennett led the way with her fourth-career double-double tallying a career-best 15 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Junior Jillian Archer managed a career-best 18 boards to go along with five points and freshman Kelsey Ransom rounded it out with 13 points, five rebounds and four blocks.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 34.9 percent (22-63) and allowed just 33.8 percent (23-68) shooting by the Pirates.
  • Georgetown outrebounded SHU 55-32, but had 21 turnovers while forcing six for Seton Hall.
  • Ransom is leading the way for the Hoyas averaging 11.1 ppg, she is followed by graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris who is averaging 10.9 ppg making two Hoyas averaging in double figures.
  • Archer has pulled down a team-best 8.5 ppg to go along with 6.6 ppg.
  • Friday's game is the third in what was a scheduled five-content homestand for the Blue & Gray.
  • The Hoyas will wear pink on Friday in GU's annual Play4Kay game. The team will honor and remember women affected by all cancer as part of the nationwide initiative.
About the Huskies
  • Friday marks UConn's third contest this week as the Huskies downed then-No. 1/1 South Carolina 63-59 on a 3-pointer from Paige Bueckers that bounced high in the air and went in to secure the victory.
  • Bueckers scored 31 in the win making it her third-consecutive game scoring 30 or more.
  • On Wednesday, the Huskies overcame a first-half deficit to defeat Seton Hall 70-49 in a BIG EAST matchup.
  • Bueckers led the way once again with 23 points as four Huskies scored in double figures.
  • Bueckers is averaging a team-best 21.3 ppg as one of four UConn players averaging double figures, she is followed by Christyn Williams who has tallied 15.0 ppg this season.
  • Olivia Nelson-Ododa is third on the team with 13.1 ppg and a squad-best 7.4 rpg.
  • In the previous meeting between the squads, Bueckers was out with an injury.

  • The Hoyas are 6-46 all-time against the Huskies and 4-19 at home.
  • Earlier this season, Georgetown fell 72-41 at Gampel Pavilion. Ransom led the way for GU with 13 points.
  • The last meeting at McDonough Arena was a 75-48 loss during the 2012-13 campaign.
  • The last home win for the Hoyas was a 65-60 triumph on January 3, 1992.
  • Georgetown's last win over UConn was February 27, 1993 when now-Associate Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler hit a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds remaining to get the 64-62 victory and snap a home win streak for the Huskies.

  • Georgetown's contest at St. John's scheduled for February 24 has been changed to a 4 p.m. tip.
  • The season finale at Xavier will now be broadcast live on FS1. The tip remained the same at noon.
