No. 15/21 Georgetown Welcomes UConn to Hilltop

WASHINGTON – The No. 15/21 Georgetown University women's soccer team (6-0-0) will welcome the University of Connecticut (4-1-1) to Shaw Field for a BIG EAST East Division tilt, as the first-place Hoyas battle against the third-place Huskies. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Shaw Field on Thursday, March 18.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 1-0 home victory against St. John's University on Sunday afternoon.
  • Sophomores Gia Vicari and Sofie Fox linked for the match's only goal.
  • On Monday, the league office announced that senior Kelly Ann Livingstone was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Vicari earned an Honor Roll nod for the third-consecutive week.
  • The Hoyas boast the strongest defense in the BIG EAST; they are the only team in the conference yet to concede a goal this campaign.
  • The squad are second in the BIG EAST in goals and points per match, averaging 2.33 and 6.33, respectively.

  • The Huskies finished 6-8-3 in 2019, enough for seventh in the American Conference.
  • UConn is on the road after hosting both St. John's University and Seton Hall University in Storrs, claiming a 1-0 and 5-0 victories, respectively.
  • The team is ranked second in the BIG EAST in shots per game, averaging 16.83 per game and tallying 101 over six games.
  • The squad also ranks second in goals allowed (2 total/.33 per game), just below Georgetown. 
  • Sophomore Jessica Mazo was named BIG EAST's Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, registering an assist against the Red Storm and a brace against the Pirates in a perfect week for the Huskies.

Series History
  • The current series record between the Hoyas and Huskies stands at 4-11-0, with UConn holding the advantage thus far.
  • The last meeting was on August 27, 2015, when Georgetown fell to the then-No. 25 Huskies in a 2-1 defeat.
