WASHINGTON – An action-packed weekend of BIG EAST track & field led by gold-medal performances in the 4x100-meter relay, 1,500-meter run, 3,000-meter steeplechase, and 5,000-meter run elevated the Georgetown men's track & field program to a runner-up finish, earning the Hoyas their highest BIG EAST outdoor team result since 2014.
DIRECTOR OF CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD ALTON MCKENZIE ON THE BIG EAST OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS:
"Truly a tremendous team effort to secure the runner-up spot at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The team embraced the concept of competing and maximizing points in every event we entered and had finalists. We never paid close attention to the point standing throughout the meet, we just focused on competing and letting the numbers add up, and see where it left us after the final event. Our mid and distance group carried the load and were consistent across the board. I was very pleased to see our group of young sprinters step up and make their mark in a big way to ensure we could finish as high as we did as a team. Our team has seized the opportunity to compete at a high level in a very challenging year and I'm very proud of the entire team. I'm also thankful for our coaching staff: Coach Bonsey, Baker and Levermore. Without their efforts these performances wouldn't be possible. Excited for this great finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships, but we're also looking forward to more to come for the rest of the postseason."
