WASHINGTON – On the final day of men's competition, the Georgetown track and field program earned First Team All-American honors in every event final that the Hoyas entered, finishing tied for 24th with the University of Michigan and the University of Kansas.
DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY ALTON MCKENZIE ON THE NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS:
"There have been several highlights of this 2021 outdoor Season but our performance as a program at these NCAA Championships are nothing short of exceptional. All-American performances across three events on Friday with Jack in the 1500 meter, Parker in the 3K steeplechase and Robert in the 5K showed tremendous consistency across the events contested at these Championships. I must make special mention of Robert's performance in the 5K; the fifth-place finish in the 5K doesn't begin to explain what he pulled off in both the 10K and 5K, running times that will be cemented in Hoya history. Outstanding job by Coach Bonsey having our men score points in every event we qualified for. To finish 24th as a program with three representatives at these Championships speaks volumes about our men's program. Looking forward to more to come as we wrap up the collegiate season and look towards the Olympic Trials."
HEAD MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY COACH/ ASSISTANT COACH FOR TRACK & FIELD BRANDON BONSEY ON THE NCAA OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS:
"Having one person get First Team All-American is incredibly difficult so for every person we brought here on the men's side to do that is amazing.
Robert Brandt's double was nothing short of spectacular. 13:19, breaking the school record by five seconds and two days after running 27:43 is ridiculous. I still can't wrap my mind around it.
Jack Salisbury has come so far in the last year. I know he wanted more yesterday but sixth in the NCAA is a great result.
Parker Stokes doing what he did this season has been so fun to watch. He's going to be a player on the national stage in a big way moving forward. We ended up finishing 24th as a team so really cool that we were able to finish top 25 at both the NCAA cross country championships and the NCAA outdoor meet. If my research is correct we are one of only four schools in the NCAA to do that this year. That's bigtime stuff right there."
FRIDAY (6/11) RECAP:
- In the men's 5000m, senior Robert Brandt capped off a tremendous meet finishing fifth overall. He crossed the finish line in 13:19.11, lowering his own Georgetown record and earning his second All-American honors of the Championships.
- Brandt, who joined the Hoyas in 2020, has made a lasting impression on the Hilltop. In his final year of collegiate eligibility, the Pasadena, California-native has run the four fastest 10,000-meter run times in school history and two fastest marks ever run at 5,000-meters.
- Brandt finishes his college career as a seven-time First Team All-American and BIG EAST Champion.
- Jack Salisbury finished sixth in the men's 1,500-meter final running 3:40.03 to earn his first individual All-American honors.
- Freshman Parker Stokes finished eighth in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase to earn All-American honors in his first NCAA final. Stokes now owns three of the fastest marks every run by a Georgetown athlete in the steeplechase.
- Both Salisbury and Brandt have automatically qualified for the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which begin on June 18th at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
