WASHINGTON – Georgetown's University swimming & diving student-athlete
Drew Carbone will compete in Wave I of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials this weekend at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Carbone will be competing in the 100- and 200-meter backstroke with the opportunity to qualify for this summer's Olympics in Tokyo.
2021 US OLYMPIC TRIALS
- Wave I of the Olympic Trials will take place June 4-7, while Wave II is scheduled for June 13-20.
- Approximately 30 athletes will compete in each event during the Wave I competition, with the top-two finishers in each event qualifying for the Wave II meet, where the U.S. squad will be selected.
- The Wave I meet will consist of morning prelims beginning at 11 a.m. ET and evening finals that start at 8 p.m. ET.
- Wave I prelims will be live streamed on http://www.usaswimming.org/watch, while the finals for all four days will be broadcast on the Olympic Channel.
- The 100-meter backstroke will take place on Friday, June 4, while the 200-meter event will be swum on Sunday, June 6.

DREW CARBONE
- Carbone is ranked seventh among Wave I swimmers in the 100-meter backstroke, and 35th in the 200-meter backstroke.
- He qualified for the Olympic Trials at the 2018 U.S. Winter National Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
- In the 100-meter backstroke, Carbone won his preliminary heat with a time of 56.46 seconds to beat the qualifying time by .13 seconds.
- On the final day of the championships, Carbone reached the A final of the 200-meter backstroke where he touched the wall in a time of 2:02.83 to qualify by .16 seconds and punch his ticket to Omaha.
- He is the second Hoya to ever qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials, joining former teammate Molly Fitzpatrick who competed in the 200-meter breaststroke at the 2016 Trials. Michelle Konkoly also competed at the 2016 U.S. Paralympic Trials before she won four medals, including two gold, in Rio.
- Carbone recently graduated from the Hilltop, but will return for his final year of eligibility. He is an 18-time All-BIG EAST honoree and has thrice been named the BIG EAST Championships' Male Most Outstanding Swimmer.
- He owns seven Georgetown records and, at the 2020 BIG EAST Championships, Carbone broke an eight-year-old BIG EAST Conference record with a winning time of 1:42.11 in the 200-yard backstroke, marking GU's first ever conference record.
